Stuffed Jalapeño Jackfruit Burger

One of the first recipes I made back in 2020 was a Stuffed Jalapeño Cheddar Burger (vegan, of course). It was also one of the first recipe videos I did and I was mad proud of it. A lot has changed since then, as we are always improving. I remade this recipe using jackfruit as the star. I also added wild rice and lentils to help balance the texture. This burger was legit with a pretzel bun, lettuce and vegan mayo; stuffed with cheese and smothered with jalapeño sauce, jalapeño slices and fried onions. Enjoy!

Shopping List

Jackfruit Burger Patty

  • 1 can young green jackfruit
  • 1/4 cup lentils, cooked
  • 1/2 cup wild rice, cooked
  • 2 Tbsp vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp parsley
  • 1 flaxseed egg (1 Tbsp ground flaxseed + 3 Tbsp water)
  • 2 Tbsp avocado oil
  • to taste salt & pepper
  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • vegan shredded cheddar cheese

Additional Ingredients

  • BBQ sauce
  • pretzel buns
  • vegan mayonnaise
  • lettuce
  • jalapeño sauce OR sauce of choice
  • sliced jalapeños
  • fried onions

Directions

Recipe makes 3 burgers

  • Cook lentils & wild rice. Mix together flaxseed egg. Set ingredients aside
  • Drain and squeeze as much water out of the jackfruit as you can. Then add the jackfruit to a pan and cook the remaining water out. This may take 5-8 minutes on medium heat. TIP: Use a cast iron pan and a cast iron press
  • Add jackfruit, wild rice, lentils, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, minced garlic, parsley, flaxseed egg, avocado oil, salt & pepper to a food processor. Blend until consistency resembles grounds
  • Add jackfruit mix to a bowl and add the panko bread crumbs. Mix together with hands. Create 6 small patties. Add 1 Tbsp of vegan shredded cheddar cheese in the center of 3 patties. Cover each with the other patty and seal the edges with your hands
  • Brush BBQ sauce on the entire patty. Bake at 360 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes. Flip the patties halfway through cooking
  • Build your burger the way you like it, and enjoy. I like to toast the pretzel bun, then add vegan mayonnaise to both sides of the bun. Next, the lettuce, then the Jackfruit Burger patty, jalapeño sauce, jalapeños, and fried onions.
